It's officially spring calendar-wise and the daylight saving time makes it even feel longer. It's just been two weeks since spring season started and still in the transition from winter to spring. As a matter of fact, it was an ugly weather last week due to heavy rains in the bay area and central coast. The creek close to my parent's home in Santa Cruz was an inch away from the ground level, which never happened for a long time. A village in Capitola was flooded! Crops and seeds along Highway 1 were washed away! In effect, vegetable prices in the market went sky-rocketing high! Nature has it's own way of intervening with life matters...not to forget the recent 8.9 earthquake in Japan plus the nuclear explosion as one of effects that affect us globally. What a mess....but life goes on...and on....! :)
As I see situations now...I believe...they are in transitions. It's a time when the past events, situations or phenomena are plainly memories and/or effects of the prior incident. Nevertheless, life moves onwards with the journey or take the other route for the better. There is always a time when one is stricken by an unfavorable circumstance that is unavoidable. When it happens, one will be able to get by or pinned into the situation permanently, in a worst case scenario. As for me, we can only be ready if it is expected to happen sooner or later. I was watching the Travel Channel this morning and the Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming was featured. Yellowstone was transformed into a new ecosystem after the huge volcanic eruptions 600 years ago. What a transition from unhabitable to habitable environment after series of eruptions! According the program, another huge eruption is expected. Who knows exactly when will it spew it's lava? This is natural phenomenon that no one can control but only make scientific predictions based on facts and previous events. Nevertheless, life moves on!
Life has been has been moving on at work, of course! I have been counting down since the 45th day. Now it's down to 35 1/2 days before the most awaited summer vacation (AGAIN!, Jeah!) begins. I take it day by day as each day unfolds swiftly. I face the day with a brand new beginning dealing with the now and treat the pass as experience to reflect and learn from. Each day is a transition to the next day and it's an "obladli oblada kinda thing" .... and life goes on...and more often than not, life could be pattern of repeatedly done activities - routine, so to speak. Routine does not bother me at all. I did it that way. Successful people have routines anyway! Routines make my day's outcome foreseable, but there are times that is like a "drum roll...with surprises! The countdown gives me a feeling of excitement of forthcoming reward ....a vacation...after working for a certain period of time! (Spring Break, Winter Break, Summer Vacation, Quarter Breaks, Holidays) Hahaha! I believe that we all need a "carrot" to reach to keep ourselves determined and there should be an added "flavor" to things we do for (some) challenge and to minimize or to avoid boredom. Boredom is not for me. I do not know how does it feel actually to be bored.
I've developed a routine and it makes my day accomplished both at work and with my work out and swim routines. Creativity makes my workout fresh each time. "Muscle confusion" makes it creative. I always find something to fine tune my swimming focusing on techniques. There is always something to enhance and to refine which leads to mastery and equates to faster speed, good momentum, effortless "fish-like" swimming. Wednesday was the practice day that I made it to 60 non-stop laps (1500 feet) in 20 minutes...and it's a personal record breaking-event for me. Now I am in transition to keep it up as goal in each quality swim. Adding on incrementally is the key in the transition process!
This past week has full of transitions. Many of these transitions involve inevitable changes. The minute moment between related situations involve in transition process may be the most essential time segment in between. What we do during that minute moment (practices, applying new steps, or just plainly moving on) may be deemed very significant in the success (or failure) of the new beginning as we move on.
I found that the last few lines of the poem "We...Human Beings" I wrote two years ago shadows what I discussed in this blog. Here it hpw it goes...
We are human,
and we will always be one.
We will always change,
because change is inevitable.
Human beings...
-excerpt from the poem "We...Human Beings" by intheredwoods
As I see it, there is a connection between changes and transitions we experience. At the church this morning during the communion,Leslie, one of the elders at Prunedale UMC church, approached me and said, "I still have the copy of the poem you shared with us last year. It's in my Bible and I read it when I need." I was touched by what she said and I was about to shed some tears secretly. I'm grateful and thankful that the poem I wrote has been useful to others. "Intheredwoods" is my pen name I used in that poem.
Make it a productive week! Life goes on! ......
